#GivingTuesday Philly Edition!

Tuesday, November 28th marks the beginning of the season of giving and is widely know as #GivingTuesday.  While yogis are known for giving year round, the holiday time is a great reminder to help those in need.

If you’re looking to participate in the season of giving, we’ve pulled together a few local options in line with our yoga vision.  The organizations listed below have official non-profit status which means your donation is also tax deductible.


Transformation Yoga Project

Transformation Yoga Project (TYP) serves people impacted by trauma, addiction and incarceration through trauma-sensitive, mindfulness-based yoga. Participants develop skills to heal and navigate life with comfort and ease. TYP seeks to expand its yoga programming to serve additional populations and communities, train yoga teachers and therapists to provide mindfulness-based programs for populations dealing with acute or chronic trauma, develop and implement programs to address Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, create mechanisms to track the outcomes of mindfulness programs, and raise awareness and create communities where participants will have access to safe, supportive and healthy mindfulness programs. Kula for Karma

Kula for Karma brings therapeutic yoga and meditation to those most in need, transforming lives and changing the face of healthcare—one person at a time. Since 2007, Kula for Karma has pioneered programs for populations with physical and mental health challenges, delivered at no cost to the patient or student. Kula for Karma applies its passion and expertise to the integration of yoga and medicine for people with cancer, cardiac issues, disordered eating, substance abuse, trauma, and other conditions. The organization improves outcomes and helps people live with a greater sense of ease and well-being during times of their greatest need. The Ahimsa House (Pureland Project)

The Ahimsa House is a center for practices of peace & mindful living. In the heart of West Philadelphia, Ahimsa House is a center for conscious consumerism. The Ahimsa House stands on the pillars of ahimsa (non-violence), dana (generosity), metta (unconditional love), and mindfulness. The Ahimsa House serves as a bridge between the Eastern and Western wisdoms.  Having gained so much rich philosophy from teachers of the East, the Ahimsa house tries to ground these philosophies in daily practice in the west. The Ahimsa House is a project under The Pureland Project, a nonprofit dedicated to empower grassroots movements for environmental sustainability and community wellness through experiential education. The project serves to give voice to underserved communities using the principles of compassion and non-violence.The Pureland Project originated in Tibet and funds Garchen Rinpoche’s communities and three schools there. Learn how you can help here.


Ivy Child International

Mindfulness through Movement, recently joined forces with Ivy Child to continue their mission. Ivy Child International is devoted to universal mindfulness education, prioritizing the multicultural needs of children and communities. They bring culturally-tailored programs to diverse educational systems and communities, with a special focus on urban populations. Programs combine meditation, deep breathing, relaxation, mindful movement and the arts to help participants boost focus and awareness, manage stress, improve self-regulation, and increase positivity.  Learn how you can help here.



Roots2Rise started as a vehicle to teach inmates yoga and mindfulness at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Philadelphia the summer of 2015. Since then, Roots2Rise has partnered with various organizations, including prisons, shelters, community centers, hospitals, schools, businesses, service organizations and city facilities in Philadelphia to make available and provide access to the practice of yoga and mindfulness. Roots2Rise focuses on service by working to meet every student, every person where they are with empathy, compassion and love. Learn how you can help here.
