Some Like it Hot!

Hot yoga is hot!

Heat or no heat? It’s a big question many yogis have to answer when selecting their yoga class. There are many benefits to participating in a hot yoga class – where the room temperature is generally 90 -105 degrees, including increased flexibility, ridding of toxins through sweat, reduced risk of injury.  But on the flip side, there’s a downside and risks as well. Thus it’s important to make sure your body is OK with the heat. We recommend talking to your yoga teacher and consulting your physician if you have any significant health concerns.

Once you deem that the heat is safe for you, what it really comes down to is…

Do you LIKE it hot?

There are many yogis that crave the heat and sweat – and the feeling like they have rinsed it all out at the end of class.  Perhaps not for everyone.  But if you’re part of that group, we’ve put together a list of studios that offer mostly, if not all, hot yoga in the greater Philadelphia area.

Sol Yoga Studio:  This Conshohocken studio offers 25+ heated power vinyasa classes each week. Their classes are powerful and challenging – but accessible to all experience levels.  Open to anyone who likes to smile and sweat!

Verge BodyMind: Located in Wayne, Verge offers a variety of classes for different experience levels – some are hot and some are not. They focus heavily on mindfulness.  We recommend checking the schedule to identify their heated classes.

Be & Breathe Yoga

Empowered Yoga: Empowered has three locations Wilmington and Newark, Delaware and Glenn Mills, Pennsylvania.  Their total of 120+ yoga classes each week include vinyasa, stationary and their signature Balanced Athlete program which is an excellent complement to any yoga practice.

Exton Yoga: This is a small studio in Exton run by Shannon Audet, one super fit and fanatical yogi.  They specialize in heated vinyasa flow classes. Classes are open to all levels and instructors can tailor to fit special needs.

Focus Fitness: A Main Line boutique fitness studio in Bryn Mawr, Focus Fitness offers classes from spinning to hot yoga.  They now have an exclusive HOT room for HOT 26 classes with a temperature of 105 at 55% humidity, as well as heated vinyasa classes.  And they have showers!

Power Yoga Works: Located in Malvern, this studio offers …you guessed it Power Yoga classes based on Baptiste Power Yoga.  You’ll find 3-4 classes each day on the schedule, most of them for all-levels of experience.

Bulldog Yoga: This energetic studio is right near Villanova University. Bulldog is a newer addition to the Main Line Yoga scene, opened in 2016.  Their unique style is original and playful, and heated!  Open to all levels with a variety of class offerings.

Be & Breathe: The newest studio on our list, Be & Breathe opened doors earlier this year.  They offer a strong, all-levels practice based on Baptiste Yoga.  This beautiful West Chester studio has parking and showers!

Many of the studios above also offer other types of yoga…if hot is just not it for you.  We recommend that you check out their schedules.  You’ll also find so many more studios in our directory.
