Bloom Yoga Studio – Foam Roller + Yoga = Tools for Self Care

The foam roller is a simple tool for relieving tension, developing more balanced tone in myofascia, and was originally utilized by body workers for at-home self-massage. In addition to its original use, the roller can also be used for strengthening, stabilizing, and is easily incorporated into your yoga practice.

What is myofascia?? Fascia is a three dimensional structure of web like connective tissue that runs through the entire body. Your muscles, organs, nerves, vessels, and fluids are contained and supported by your fascia, and myofascia refers to the fascia surrounding the muscles and their fibers. Diverse factors such as overactive muscles, injury, inflammation, and chronic postural imbalance can cause the fascia can become disorganized and “snagged” like the threads of a sweater. Enter this diverse tool!

In this workshop, you will learn foam roller techniques for self-massage, incorporate the foam roller within a yoga practice, receive a handout for a take home sequence, and practice learning to “Roll With It.”

No previous yoga experience necessary. All levels welcome, including prenatal students. Space is limited and pre-registration is recommended. This workshop is eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits in accordance with Yoga Alliance standards. See Yogaalliance.org for more information. All hours are contact hours.

Workshop cost: $25; please bring your own foam roller, or you can purchase one at Bloom for $20
